Paediatrics dietetics is similar to the whole of dietetics but with one big difference - our patients grow! We always take into account the changing nutritional needs and life stages of our young patients.
How can I arrange a referral to the dietitian?
If you are concerned about your child’s diet, you will need to see your GP, health visitor or paediatrician to request a referral to see a dietitian.
Where are clinics held?
Your appointment letter will confirm the location of your appointment.
Our appointments are held at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, in Outpatients 6 (the Children’s Unit). Please check in for your appointment in Outpatients 6.
What services do we offer?
We see patients with food allergies, for nutritional support, special needs including autistic spectrum disorders, gastroenterology issues and type 1 diabetes.
We run a monthly cow’s milk free weaning group for infants diagnosed with cow’s milk protein allergy. This session provides information on cow’s milk protein allergy in general; the types of milks used in treatment; how to wean on to solid food; what to do when baby reaches a year and reintroduction of cow’s milk, and the milk ladder for those are safe to be challenged at home.
What should I bring to my appointment?
You will need to bring a completed food diary, which is sent out with the appointment letter. You will also need to bring your child’s Red Book if they are of pre-school age.
What do I need to do to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
You will need to call the dietetics department on 01483 571122 ext 3228 or email at rsch.dietitians@nhs.net.
If my child is admitted to hospital will we be able to see the dietitian?
There is a dietetic service to Hascombe Children’s ward and Special Care Baby Unit. If your child is admitted and needs support from the dietitian, your doctor or nurse can refer your child to us.
