Brain tumour

Nurse with cancer patient

Living with and beyond cancer

The majority of treatments are to control your brain tumour and not to cure it. After a treatment cycle has finished, you will receive regular check-ups and on-going MRI scans to monitor your tumour. The frequency of the scans will depend on your individual tumour.  Any changes will be reviewed by your multi-disciplinary team to determine the next step.

You may experience some changes, which can be as a result of your tumour and the treatment that you have received.  This can include changes to your personality, weakness in one side of your body, difficulties with speech, problem with your vision, seizures, tiredness and memory issues. These can be hard to deal with and your team will be able to help you.

However, sometimes a brain tumour cannot be removed or controlled and you may decide with your team to stop active treatment. Your clinical nurse specialist will continue to support you and your loved ones. They will also refer you to our palliative care team, who will help to relieve your symptoms and improve your quality of life. Find out more about our palliative care team.
