Woking Public - Cliff Bush OBE

I have served as a public governor for over a year and strongly believe in the important responsibilities this role contributes, including bringing valuable perspective and contributions to the hospital.

During my professional life, I worked as a senior executive for global companies spending the majority of my career in the aerospace industry. These roles involved extensive traveling and establishing multifaceted buying systems. I worked with people across diverse cultures on industry-defining projects finding solutions to real challenges that made a difference in people’s lives.

Since taking early retirement, I have been chairman of the Surrey Coalition of Disabled People for more than 20 years. The Coalition enables and empowers disabled people and those living with long-term health conditions to be an active and central part of the community. The coalition proactively works with health, social care, and community partners to co-produce services, strategies and policy.

I am currently working closely with Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust Chair and CEO to ensure universal accessibility for patients.

I am a trustee of Surrey Crossroads, as well as mentor NHS senior executives, volunteer in the cabinet office, and serve as Patient Liaison Director for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Academic Health Networks.

Another of my passions is supporting carers, including young carers. I support them with their mental health and respite needs to help them relax and de-stress. For example, I arrange visits for carers at venues such as Wisley Gardens. For young carers who are already doing an adult’s job, and can sometimes lack a childhood and the joys that come with it, I arrange activities like apple picking as well as visits to pizza houses and local theme parks.
