Waverley Public - Joan Juniper

As a public governor, I understand the position has a selection of important responsibilities including being informed about current health and social care provision. Representing the needs of different groups in the community is an honour, therefore I see my role as an advocate for patients and their families and carers by influencing decisions that affect the provision of the highest quality of healthcare with maximum benefits for patients.

I am delighted to be supporting the Royal Surrey County Hospital’s Board by my membership on the Membership and Engagement and Patient Experience committees using my experience gained over 40 years of nursing to enhance the organisation’s future project management challenges. A recent challenge for the hospital was supported by my role as a public governor recently included supporting patients in our Covid-19 Vaccination Hub where up to 500 patients were vaccinated daily. I was able to help and support many of these patients and importantly share any feedback from them with the clinical and management teams to help improve the vaccination experience overall.  As a nurse I am bound by my Nursing and Midwifery Council to be confidential, non-judgmental and always act in the best interests of the public. I have also been a patient at the Royal Surrey County Hospital as have members of my family and we have always experienced high quality care.

My career has been at the Royal Surrey County Hospital as a Senior Nurse and latterly as a Senior Lecturer in Healthcare at the University of Surrey. My past history does also include being selected by the Olympic Committee to be part of the medical team for the Olympics in 2012 delivering nursing care and managing a clinical team throughout the Games. I also have practiced as a Magistrate for Farnham and Camberley therefore I am confident that with my past experience I am able to continue to serve the community in my role as a Governor.
